Pride Month is celebrated every June to honor the LGBTQ+ community and to recognize their ongoing fight for equality and acceptance. This month-long celebration has a rich history that dates back to the Stonewall riots of 1969, which were a turning point in the LGBTQ+ rights movement.
At {@companyname}, we stand proud in our commitment to fostering an inclusive and welcoming environment for everyone, regardless of their sexual orientation or gender identity.
Pride Month is not just a celebration; it’s a reminder of the ongoing journey toward equality and acceptance. Let us take this opportunity to amplify LGBTQ+ voices, celebrate the uniqueness that each individual brings to our community, and renew our dedication to creating a workplace where everyone feels valued, respected, and embraced.
Here are some key facts about Pride Month that you might find helpful:
- The rainbow flag, which is a symbol of LGBTQ+ pride, was first created in 1978 by artist Gilbert Baker.
- Pride Month is celebrated in June to commemorate the Stonewall riots, which took place in New York City on June 28, 1969.
- The LGBTQ+ community faces higher rates of discrimination, violence, and mental health issues than the general population.
- Transgender individuals, especially transgender people of color, face some of the highest levels of discrimination and violence within the LGBTQ+ community.
- The fight for LGBTQ+ rights is ongoing, with many countries still criminalizing same-sex relationships and denying basic human rights to LGBTQ+ individuals.
Pride Month is about celebrating our identities, further educating ourselves, and showing up and fighting for the most marginalized people in our communities. Here’s how you can honor Pride Month with {@companyname}:
- Educate yourself at the Pride Panel/Book Club: [insert ideas of any company events].
- Show your pride with Zoom backgrounds: Show your support by using one of the Zoom backgrounds [link backgrounds] during the month of June.
- Donate to charity: The fight for equality still has a long way to go. Use Firstup’s Matching Program to donate to a charity of your choosing. A few we recommend include:
Together we can make a difference in the fight for equality and acceptance.
Things to consider:
- Include any Pride Month activities that your company and/or ERGs are hosting.
- Share local charities or established LGBTQ+ charities that employees can donate to.
- Include resources for employees to educate themselves on Pride Month.
- Encourage employees to share Pride Month parade photos. Note that some countries celebrate Pride Month during other months, including June and July.
- Consider changing your Firstup platform logo to be colorful/rainbow to support Pride Month.
- Highlight how your company will be an ally all year.
