As part of your performance discussions, you should also have development discussions with each of your employees. Aim for at least one development goal per employee per year (if not more).

Ideas can include a conference, LinkedIn Learning, professional memberships, and access to journals.

Here are some development ideas for your employees:

  • Professional memberships
  • Conferences
  • LinkedIn Learning
  • Certificate programs
  • Shadow a person (internal or external)
  • Stretch goal/Cross-functional project
  • Speaking opportunities (internal or external)
  • Assign a mentor

Things to consider:

  • This is a great spot to include what your company offers for developmental resources.
  • Be sure to also include development ideas for your managers to relay to their employees.
