August, often seen as the final stretch of summer, is also celebrated as Wellness Month. This month serves as a reminder to prioritize our health, both mentally and physically. It is a great time to make positive changes and embrace habits that promote overall well-being.

Here are some practical steps to embrace wellness in August:

  1. Set goals: Identify specific, achievable wellness goals. Whether it’s committing to a daily walk, trying a new healthy recipe,  or practicing gratitude, setting clear goals can help you stay focused.
  2. Create a routine: Establish a daily routine that includes time for physical activity, relaxation, and social interactions. Consistency is key to building lasting habits.
  3. Practice mindfulness: Dedicate time each day to mindfulness practices such as meditation, deep breathing, or yoga. These activities can help reduce stress and improve mental clarity.
  4. Stay hydrated: Proper hydration is essential for overall health. Aim to drink plenty of water throughout the day, especially during hot summer months.
  5. Seek support: Don’t hesitate to reach out for support when needed — whether it’s talking to a friend, joining a support group, or seeking professional help through the EAP.

Wellness Month is a wonderful opportunity to focus on your health and well-being. Embrace this month as a chance to invest in yourself and cultivate habits that promote overall well-being.

Things to consider:

  • Include any additional resources from your company’s EAP or benefits provider, including gym discounts, nutritional coaching, etc.
  • Consider hosting a wellness fair — bring in local doctors or gyms and have the cafeteria share healthy meals. 
  • Share any mental and wellness activities your company may be holding during the month.
  • Consider starting a series in your wellness topic around “Wellness Wednesdays” for the month, featuring employee stories and wellness activities.
